When Wicked comes to Uihlein Hall at the Marcus Center from June 12 through July 7, star Jennifer DiNoia will “defy gravity” as green girl Elphaba. Below, the actress recalls one of her sillier moments in the hit show.

During a performance in the Chicago production, a snowstorm caused the power to go out in the Oriental Theatre, just as DiNoia was singing “As Long As You’re Mine.” “The entire audience screamed,” the actress said. The emergency lights came on 10 seconds later and an announcement was made that the performance would not go on. “Knowing that the Oriental Theatre in Chicago is haunted, I really didn’t want to stay afterwards and take a shower in the dark. So, I took a cab home, completely green! The cab driver didn’t look at me twice.”

Centering on the unlikely friendship between Elphaba and Glinda, Wicked features songs by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. In addition to DiNoia, the cast features Hayley Podschun as Glinda, David Nathan Perlow as Fiyero, Gina Ferrall as Madame Morrible and Walker Jones as the Wizard.
